Chapter 10

Jayden sipped a bottle of blood and looked out the kitchen window. What the hell had he done? He’d wanted to show Eleanor that pleasure wasn’t something to fear, but instead, he lost himself in her soft curves and passionate whimpers and fueled her terror. He needed to go slower, much slower, and not concentrate on satisfying his own lusts. His dad was right. He was a selfish bastard.

He moved away from the window and placed the empty bottle in the sink. He turned the faucet on, splashing cold water on his face. He was still rock hard for Eleanor. She was such a contradiction. With her vampire strength, she could rip him in two, but she wielded her power only when she had to. One minute she was a warrior, fighting to save them and the next a frightened waif hiding in the shadows. He’d never met a woman like her, and he wanted her. God, he wanted her.

His erection rubbed uncomfortably against his pants. He groaned and hopped up to his bathroom, then turned on the shower. He stripped and jumped inside, then sucked in his breath, shivering. Icy water pelted him, punishing him for taking advantage of such a vulnerable, strong woman. His release was as cold as the stream beating on his gooseflesh skin.

Within minutes, he changed into sweats, vowing to stay at arms-length from Eleanor. He hurried down to the kitchen and inhaled the smell of fresh brewed coffee. Eleanor sat at the counter, sipping from a cup. Her hair was damp and curled at the ends. Her white sweater highlighted her blushing ruby cheeks and violet eyes.

She was a temptress. He shook with desire and his cock grew hard again. It took all of his will to keep his vow and keep his hands and lips to himself.

“Eleanor.” Her name came out in a guttural tone as if he had suddenly turned into a bullfrog.

She raised her eyebrow. This time, heat rushed over him and he cleared his throat. Shit, he never had been tongued tied over a woman before. Usually it was the other way around. “I wanted to apologize.”

“For what?”

He should have been paying attention to that icy tone, but he was so caught up in his apology, he missed it. A stupid mistake.

“For seducing you. I shouldn’t––” His throat closed up.

Her eyes blazed and if he didn’t watch it, she’d burn him to a crisp. She slammed her cup down onto the counter and brown liquid splashed out on the side. “You regret being intimate with me?”

He jumped. Uneasiness settled in his heart. “Yes. It won’t happen again.”

The chair slid across the floor and a flash of movement headed straight toward him. He flew through the air and smashed into a wall. Pain pounded into the left side of his body and black dots swirled around his eyes. He slumped down to the floor and lay on his back, gasping for breath.

“So, you were appalled of laying with damaged goods.” Hurt and anger rippled through Eleanor’s voice.
